CSS-12

Liquid Chlorinated Sanitizer

* Purpose

CSS-12 is a versatile, concentrated, non-foaming liquid chlorinated sanitizer. It is an excellent sanitizer for many uses in meat, poultry and other food processing operations.

* Typical Applications

CSS-12 may be used in spray, soak or circulation sanitizing operations of equipment and related hard surfaces in most areas of meat, poultry, vegetable and seafood operations. It may also be used for sanitizing shell eggs. CSS-12 is recommended for sanitizing stainless steel, red tile, ceramic tile, and plastic surfaces. CSS-12 is effective using any water temperature for application. Application temperature is discretionary, dependent on a food facility’s needs for controlling condensation at the end of a sanitation shift, prior to immediate production start.

* Properties

CSS-12 is a light yellow liquid, with a mild chlorine odor, and contains 12%
sodium hypochlorite. CSS-12 is completely miscible with water at all recommended
use concentrations, and has a Specific Gravity of 1.211 (10.3
lbs./gallon).

* Use Directions

Wash equipment or other surfaces with recommended LW Chemical product. Rinse
thoroughly with potable water. For use in meat and poultry plants, sanitize
floors, tables, cutting and trimming boards with 200 ppm available chlorine
solution (1 oz. CSS-12 per 5 gallons of water). Allow a minimum of 2 minutes
contact time. Sanitize eggs with a 100 ppm chlorine solution ( 1 oz./ 10 gallons
of water). Allow eggs to be in contact with sanitizing solution for not less
than 2 minutes. Do not rinse eggs after sanitizing. Allow eggs to dry before
casing.

* Authorization

CSS-12 is authorized by the USDA for use under category code letters:

D2: Sanitizers for all surfaces not always requiring a rinse.

Q4: Shell egg sanitizing compounds.

DANGER: Hazards to Humans. Corrosive.

May cause severe skin irritation or chemical burns to broken skin. Causes eye
damage. Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Wear goggles or face shield
and rubber gloves when handling the product. Wash after handling. Avoid
breathing vapors. Vacate poorly ventilated areas as soon as possible. Do not
return until odors have dissipated

Keep Out of Reach of Children

Environmental Hazards:

This pesticide is toxic to fish. Keep out of lakes, streams or ponds. Treated
effluent may not be discharged into lakes, streams, ponds or public waters
without a valid discharge permit. For guidance, contact the regional office of
the EPA.

Physical and Chemical Hazards: Strong Oxidizing Agent

Mix only with water according to label directions. Mixing the product with
gross filth such as feces, urine, etc. or with ammonia, acids, detergents or
other chemicals may release hazardous gases irritating to eyes, lungs and mucous
membranes.

Statement of Practical Treatment:

If swallowed, drink large quantities of milk, or gelatin solution or, if
these are not available, drink large quantities of water. DO NOT give vinegar or
other acids. DO NOT induce vomiting. Get prompt medical attention. If on skin,
wash with plenty of soap and water. If in eyes, flush with water for at least 15
minutes, Get medical attention.

Storage and Disposal:

Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. In case of spill, flood
area with large quantities of water. Rinse empty container thoroughly with water
and either return to manufacturer or discard by placing in trash collection or
burying in an approved landfill. Product or rinsate that cannot be used, should
be diluted with water and disposed of in a sanitary sewer. Do not contaminate
food or feed by storage, disposal or cleaning of equipment.
